ドイツ（ベルリン）在住のフリーランス翻訳家、
wasabiさんこと、藤沢裕子さんです。

大学卒業後、いきなりドイツに移住して
フリーランス翻訳家になったという
異色の経歴の持ち主。

「海外フリーランス養成スクール」という
サロンが人気でいらっしゃいます。

今回は、ベルリンでの生活について
英語でお話しいただきました。

英語の書き起こし＆日本語訳

他では見たことのない、ベルリン流の生活スタイル

――How is life like in Germany?
（ドイツでの生活はどんな感じですか？）

Wasabi: It’ amazing, I would say.
（一言で言うと、すばらしいです）

――Oh, amazing.
（すばらしいんですか）

Wasabi: It’s amazing.
（はい、すばらしいです）

I’ve never seen or never experienced the lifestyle such in Berlin.
（ベルリンでの生活スタイルのようなものは、他では見たことも経験したこともありません）

――Hum…
（そうなんですか）

Wasabi: It’s really… I would say, it’s really slow.
（とても・・・なんというか、ゆっくりで）

And people enjoy the moment of their life.
（人々が人生の「今」を味わっているんです）

日曜日には全てのお店が閉まり……

Wasabi: On Sunday, if it’s sunny, people go out to enjoy the sunshine in the park.
（日曜日には、天気がよければ公園にでも行って日光浴をします）

――Hum. Sound good!
（へえー、いいですね！）

Wasabi: Yeah.
（そうなんですよ）

And all the shops are closed on Sunday including supermarkets.
（日曜にはお店はどこもお休みです。スーパーを含め）

So the only thing you can do on Sunday is to go out and maybe walk around the park.
（だから日曜日にできることと言ったら、外に出かけて公園を散歩することだったり）

And do the sun bathing.
（日光浴をすることだったりするんです）

――Hum…
（なるほど）

Wasabi: So I really like that lifestyle.
（私はそういうライフスタイルがとても好きなんです）

逆に、ドイツに欠けているものとは？

――Is there anything that you wish you had in Germany?
（逆に、ドイツになくて悲しいものってありますか？）

Wasabi: Ah… I sometimes need… natto.
（えーと、時々・・・納豆が欲しくなります）

――(Laughter)

Wasabi: (Laughter) Yes.
（そうなんです（笑））

――You’re a natto lover.
（納豆好きなんですね）

Wasabi: Yeah, but if you buy it in Berlin, it cost almost 450 yen for three packs.
（はい、でもベルリンで買おうとすると３個入りのパックが４５０円するんです）

――Three packs!
（３個で！）

Wasabi: Three packs.
（はい、３個で）

――Okay.
（そうですか）

Wasabi: So it’s really expensive.
（バカ高いんですよ）

So I wish I could have that one.
（だから、納豆が食べれたらいいなと思います）

ドイツのお役所は悪名高い!?

Wasabi: Also I don’t like the beaurocracy in Germany.
（それと、ドイツのお役所が嫌いです）

For example, if you go to the city hall to apply for visa and thing like that, it takes ages. (Laughter)
（例えば、ビザの申請などで市役所に行くと、時間がかかってしょうがないです（笑））

――Hum…
（そうですか）

Wasabi: And also German beaurocracy is infamous for that.
（ドイツのお役所が良くないことは有名なんです）

It’s not because I’m a foreigner.
（別に私が外国人だからではなくて）

But also for the German local people, it’s a nightmare.
（現地のドイツ人にとっても一緒で、とにかくひどいんですよ）

――Hum…
（ほぉー）

Wasabi: You have to wait in a line.
（列に並ぶんですけど）

And sometimes they tell you the wrong information.
（窓口の人に言われた内容が正しくないことも結構あって）

And I have to go to the… how do you say… “Ausländerbehörde” in English?
（”Ausländerbehörde” に行かないといけなくて……英語で言うとなんでしたっけ？）

Like foreign administration office? The administration office for foreigner?
（外国人の登録窓口みたいな感じのところなんですが）

I had to go there five times to get my visa.
（ビザを取るのに、５回も通わされました）

I really didn’t like it.
（あれはひどい経験でした）

――Hum. Okay.
（そんなにですか）

Wasabi: That’s what I hate about Germany. (Laughter)
（ドイツのそういうところは嫌いです（笑））

But other than that, I like Germany.
（でもそれ以外は、ドイツが好きですね）
