どんなお仕事をしているかについて
お話していただきました。

スポーツ通訳は普通の通訳とどう違う？

――So, you’re a interpreter for a sport team?
（佐々木さんはスポーツチームの通訳だったわけですよね）

Marie: Yes.
（はい）

――So, is that different from ordinary interpreters?
（それは普通の通訳とは違うのでしょうか）

Marie: I think so.
（違うと思います）

There is many kinds of interpreter, but my job is ah… I always had to be with players and coaches as a team stuff.
（通訳にもいろいろありますが、私の仕事は…チームのスタッフとして常に選手やコーチと一緒にいなければなりませんでした）

And, of course I had to translate what they said in the practice and what they said in the games, in the matches.
（そして、もちろん彼らが練習や試合で何を言っているか通訳しなければなりません）

But, I think that is only 20 percentage in my job.
（でも、それは仕事のうちの20パーセントぐらいでしょうか）

買い物に食事に選手の子どもの子守に…

Marie: So, other 80 percentage is I always have to go to shopping with them…
（他の80パーセントは、いつも一緒に買い物に行かなければならなかったり…）

――Shopping?
（買い物ですか？）

Marie: Yes, to buy groceries, to… to buy clothes, to… shop shoes, I don’t know.
（はい、日用品とか、洋服とか、靴とか、色々なものを買うために）

And, sometime I go to dinner, I go to lunch with them.
（たまに夕食や昼食も一緒に行きます）

――Uh-huh.
（なるほど）

Marie: Also, one player has kids…
（あと、ある選手には子どもがいたので…）

――Yeah?
（そうなんですね）

Marie: Eh, he has three years old daughter, so after practice I sometimes go his house and I spent time with his daughter.
（3歳の娘がいたので、練習の後にたまにその選手の家に行って娘と過ごしました）

Like, nanny for her.
（子守役みたいな）

――Nanny?
（子守ですか）

Marie: Yes.
（はい）

おバカなジョークの通訳にツアーガイドまで！

Marie: And, so, outside of the court, I also had to translate between Japanese and foreigners players and sometimes there were stupid conversation, stupid joking.
（あと、コートの外では日本人と外国人選手の間のくだらない会話、おバカなジョークも通訳しなければなりませんでした）

――Stupid joking, did you say?
（おバカなジョークって言いましたか？）

Marie: Yes… yes, but I had to translate some crazy joke, but that is also my job.
（はい、おかしなジョークを通訳しなければならなくて、それも私の仕事でした）

――That sounds, you know, very tough to interpret.
（それは通訳するのが難しそうですね）

Marie: Yes, yes.
（はい）

――So, you also, you know, go like sightseeing with them?
（では、選手と一緒に観光に行ったりもしたんですか？）

Marie: Yeah, sometime I go, I go to see Sakura, cherry blossom, and I also went to ABENO HARUKAS.
（はい、ときには桜を見に行ったり、あと、あべのハルカスに行ったりもしました）

――Ah, so, you’re like a tour guide sometimes.
（なるほど、ときにはツアーガイドでもあったわけですね）

Marie: Yes, yes.
（はい、そうなんです）
