大学で化学を教えている、ポーランド人の
ラファオさんです。

まずは、ラファオさんに英語で自己紹介
していただきました。

――Would you introduce yourself?
（自己紹介してくださいますか？）

Rafal: Hello, my name is Rafal and I’m from Poland.
（こんにちは、ラファオと申します。ポーランドから来ました）

Now I’m currently visiting Japan and I’m travelling through the island Kyushu.
（現在私は日本を訪れていて、九州を旅しています）

――When did you come?
（いついらっしゃったのですか？）

Rafal: Ah… I’m now on my leave.
（ええと、今は休暇中なのですが）

So, I came to Japan at the start of the vacation.
（バケーションの始めに日本に来て）

Now I’m staying for two months.
（2か月が経ちました）

And, I’ll be going back at 1st October, back to Poland.
（10月1日にポーランドに戻ります）

Back in Poland I’m also a chemistry teacher and I teach at a university.
（ポーランドでは化学の講師をしていて、大学で教えています）

素晴らしい先生との出会い

Mmm, maybe I’ll say why did I become a teacher?
（えーと、なぜ講師になったかお話しましょうか？）

――Yeah, please.
（はい、お願いします）

Rafal: Ah, because I met a very good teacher.
（とても良い先生と出会ったからです）

And, she made me like chemistry very much, and…
（彼女は化学をすごく好きにしてくれました）

――That’s when you were in…?
（それはいつのことですか？）

Rafal: Yeah, when I was like in primary school.
（小学校のときです）

――Why do you wanna teach chemistry?
（なぜ化学を教えたかったのですか？）

Rafal: I wanted to become the same good teacher as my teacher was.
（彼女と同じような良い先生になりたかったからです）

I want more people to be inspired by chemistry.
（たくさんの人に化学を面白いと思い、刺激を受けてほしいのです）

化学を教えるのに「レゴブロック」を使用

Now in my lessons I use like very easy expressions.
（私は授業で平易な表現を使います）

And sometimes I show on… like on models.
（たまにモデルを使って表します）

I teach for example chemistry like LEGO blocks.
（例えば、レゴブロックを使って化学を教えます）

――Mmm.
（へえ）

Rafal: Like, you can… I get like all the LEGO blocks and on the lesson.
（授業にレゴブロックを持って行って）

And give them to children and then they can like build something.
（それを生徒たちに与えて何か作ってもらうのです）

Then I tell them how they can change the functions in the chemistry.
（そして、それがどのように科学的に機能を変えたか教えます）

――Like ah… atoms or…?
（原子とかみたいに？）

Rafal: Yeah, like atoms.
（そうです、原子みたいに。）

Like for example salts that you can just crack them in half and then add another half from the other one and then it makes itself.
（例えば、塩を半分に割って、別のところから持ってきた半分をくっつけると塩に戻るんです）

That’s sometimes easier to show than to explain only by words.
（そうやって見せた方が、時には言葉で説明するよりも簡単です）

――Mmmm.
（なるほど）

Rafal: That’s why I’m sometimes using diagrams.
（ですから、私は時に図形を使います）

Because for me like, I remember many things by seeing them not by reading or hearing.
（私にとっては、読んだり聞いたりするよりも見た方が多く覚えられるからです）

And, because people tend to remember them more than words.
（そして、みんな見る方が言葉よりも覚えられます）
